you may have seen the five cute little mascots for the 2008 olympics. their names are bei-bei, jing-jing, huan-huan, ying-ying and ni-ni. put together, this reads: 'beijing huanying ni!': beijing welcomes you!
8 is a lucky number in chinese, as most of you probably know. according to my chinese teacher, this is because eight - 'ba' (first tone) sounds very much like 'fa' (first tone) as in 'fa cai' (to become rich).
the beijing olympic games opening ceremony will start in 2008 on the 8th day of the 8th month at 8 minutes past 8pm.
