Day Three - Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge

old fitzroy crossing

we awoke on day three next to that old pile of dirt for some brekky

and a morning FKK splash in the fitzroy river - to the delight of passers-by

tunnel creek

we rolled on down through some semi-arid terrain to tunnel creek national park

over millions of years, a little river (tunnel creek) had carved a tunnel through a section of the nearby napier range, so tourists can now scamper on through the 0.5km tunnel all the way through to the other side, deep within the bowels of the mountain! flashlights essential...

here's the entry to the cave...

at first we were up to our ankles in the river

then our knees...

then our waists!

and remember that this little river was populated by fresh water crocs! we walked mainly with no light - in the photo above you can see some light coming in from the entry in the far background! rather than a croc, i was concerned that we might meet gollum there...pressshhhhuussss!

half way through the tunnel, the roof had collapsed, letting in a bit of light and a few communities of bats

and here we are at the other end!

windjana gorge

further along we reached our destination for the day - the beautiful windjana gorge

populated by heaps of fresh water crocs

bats...(incidentally check out the genitals on the middle bat. looks a bit too familiar doesn't it?)

and all manner of lush tropical flora in this little pocket of life in the otherwise barren-ish landscape...

we love our baobabs!!!

Hi Bondy,
Your blog is a classical example of saying that a picture is worth 1000 words. The landscape looks beautiful. I wish I was there just now. Love mum
